On May 15, 1944 Wisconsin Central Airlines was created with Francis Higgins as the first president. The company was awarded AM-86 in 1948 to deliver air mail to an area that would eventually comprise 1400 route miles and 43 cities. Its first planes were Lockheed 10A Electra%u2019s, but it also flew Douglas DC-3s. The initial first flights were on February 24, 1948, after being delayed by adverse weather conditions. In 1952 it changed its name to North Central Airlines, and was eventually absorbed into Northwest Airlines in 1986. The only stop in Indiana was in 1955 in South Bend.A playing card from a souvenir deck provided to passengers by North Central Airlines.
