Fools%u2019 Journey518Despite the disappointment, there were plenty of positive things happening. Lynn had been slowly expanding her ethnic-doll collection, and now well had over 100 of them. They came from such disparate countries as Ireland, Guatemala, Lapland, Senegal, Poland, India, Portugal, Israel, Slovenia, Sweden, Ukraine, Thailand, Turkey, Nepal, and Lebanon. There was even a hand-made Carmelite nun doll from Pennsylvania with legs made of aluminum foil under her habit, and two dolls from the Navajo Nation. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time carefully and accurately restoring each and every one.Lynn also created another Detroit album, featuring postcards from the city%u2019s Golden Age %u2014 roughly from the late 1800s to the Great Depression. There were images of the skyline as seen from Canada, as well as postcards featuring hotels, parks, monuments, banks, department stores, restaurants, schools, churches, theaters, and hospitals. She also included cards depicting the City Hall, Post Office, Water Works, Wayne County Court House, Detroit Zoo, and the Detroit Institute of Arts. There were even shots of expressways, cemeteries, and factories. After carefully designing the pages, and organizing all the cards, it really turned out to be a beautiful album.Another collection of Lynn%u2019s came about after I happened to see a postage stamp online that I remembered from my days of collecting back in the 1960s, but had completely forgotten about. It was a 3-cent 1948 issue commemorating the 100th anniversary of the poultry industry in the United States. Because I knew Lynn was sitting at her computer, and she had a particular fondness for chickens, I pasted an image of the stamp into an email and sent it to her. The subject line read, %u201cA stamp I forgot about that you will like.%u201d It took a mere seven minutes for her to reply, %u201cIt%u2019s the very best stamp EVER!!!%u201dLynn%u2019s response led me to contact a cover-collecting friend to see if he had any duplicate chicken First Day Covers he%u2019d be willing to sell me, and he did. I was trying to decide how to present them to Lynn, when I realized the anniversary of our first meeting %u2014 August 7, in Kendallville %u2014 was coming up. So I phoned the Post Office in the tiny town of Chicken, Alaska and told them I%u2019d like
