The Poultry Centennial stamp was produced in large 200-stamp sheets, with every sheet having a printingplate serial number in the selvedge of each of its four corners. After being perforated, the large sheets were cut into quarters, each of which contained 50 stamps with one plate number in the selvedge. A matched set of plate-number blocks is defined as four blocks (each containing four stamps), with the same plate number in the selvedge, but in a different corner. Thus, each block originated from a different corner of a single large 200-stamp sheet. The following pages contain one matched set for each of the four different printing plates used.Four different plate numbers were used, and on September 1, stamps were printed from plates 23900 and 23903. Those were used on the First Day of Issue in New Haven. The other two plates (23901 and 23902) were run through the press on September 7.
