A Century of Progress %u2022 Vintage PostcardsMarking the Crociera Aerea del Decennale (Decennial Air Cruse)An Italian squadron of 25 seaplanes led by General Italo Balbo flew in formation from Rome to the Century of Progress Exposition, then back to Rome. The aviators arrived in Chicago on July 15, 1933 and landed on Lake Michigan at 6PM. The flight was a publicity success for Mussolini%u2019s Fascist Italy, and a pioneering step towards commercial flights across the Atlantic.Philately and the FairCinderella Stamps
