                                    BBBBPhilately at the FairCinderella StampsA Cinderella Stamp, as defined in Philatelic Terms Illustrated, is %u201cvirtually anything resembling a postage stamp, but not issued for postal purposes by a government postal administration.%u201d These stamps were named after the fairy-tale heroine treated as inferior by her family%u2014as Cinderella Stamps are treated by most philatelists, who collect only %u201creal%u201d postage stamps.Interestingly, a wide and varied selection of items are considered Cinderellas, including commemorative event stickers, as well as postage stamps issued by countries, political entities, or governments that are not legitimate%u2014such as those that have broken away, or operate in exile. Cinderellas also encompass Christmas and Easter seals, simple decorative labels created for amusement, and stickers published by wildlife agencies, music clubs, and book clubs.Poster Stamps are a particular category of Cinderellas that feature a miniature version of a full-size poster%u2014often a contest award winner. Although the definition of a Poster Stamp is narrower than that of a Cinderella, the terms are often used interchangeably. First used in advertising in the mid-19th century, Poster Stamps grew in popularity until World War I, when they were often used as political propaganda. Their use then declined through World War II.
