                                    BBBBA Century ofProgress %u25a0 Postcards %u25a0Illinois Photogravure Co.%u25a0 Partial Set %u25a0The Illinois Photogravure Co., of Chicago, used a photogravure process to print detailed, continuous tones of photographs onto postcards. The process utilized an acid-etched copper intaglio plate, and ink was worked into the depressions that resulted from the etching. Thus, the printing was done from a recessed surface, as opposed to using a raised surface as in letterpress printing, or a flat surface as in lithographic printing. Illinois Photogravure produced an unknown number of postcards for the Fair %u2014 but there were perhaps at least four dozen. This collection contains most of those that are known. Some particular cards are available either numbered or unnumbered; in such cases, this collection only contains numbered versions.%u2756
