(208.08)%u201cWELL, IF YOU%u2019RE STILL INTERESTED, you can come and photograph the inside of Beck%u2019s Mill.%u201d After attempting to get permission to enter that alluring and weathered old grist mill for nearly three years, it was difficult to believe we were receiving an invitation. But, Larry Nelson, President of Friends of Beck%u2019s Mill, assured us we could come%u2014anytime%u2014to Washington County and he would literally unlock the door. Excitedly, plans were finalized for a meeting.As we neared the village of Beck%u2019s Mill, we were greeted by ominous ROAD CLOSED signs%u2014but Larry had warned us about them, and had said we could drive on through. With 45 minutes to spare, we parked in a flat spot on the mill property and ate a picnic lunch. Then John started shooting the exterior, as a continuous line of trucks began dumping loads of soil along the edge of the road just above us, which a bulldozer was deftly shaping into a new shoulder. We had arrived, but would we be able to get out?At exactly 1 o%u2019clock Larry pulled up and we exchanged hellos, then ambled toward the mill%u2019s back door, where he put a key into the new padlock.
