But, Larry Nelson, President of Friends of Beck%u2019s Mill, assured us we could come%u2014anytime%u2014to Washington County and he would literally unlock the door. Excitedly, plans were finalized for a meeting.As we neared the village of Beck%u2019s Mill, we were greeted by ominous ROAD CLOSED signs%u2014but Larry had warned us about them, and had said we could drive on through. With 45 minutes to spare, we parked in a flat spot on the mill property and ate a picnic lunch. Then John started shooting the exterior, as a continuous line of trucks began dumping loads of soil along the edge of the road just above us, which a bulldozer was deftly shaping into a new shoulder.
