The Broadway was built in 1908, and burned down in 1952. To much fanfare, a Holiday Inn was built on the site and opened on December 2, 1968. It closed in 1972, after only four years of operation. Charles Barnette, Holiday Inn%u2019s Director of Public Relations, said %u201cThis location just does not draw people. I don%u2019t know why.%u201dErected in 1908 by the Brennan syndicate at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Washington Street. Named after Captain H.S. Norton, who was manager of the Gary Land Company. Now razed.
