Individual Artist Grants

John Bower has received five prestigious Individual Artist Grants from the Indiana Arts Commission. The Individual Artist Program was created to supports artists, in all disciplines, for career development projects. Recipients cannot receive a Grant two years in a row.

John is the only photographer in Indiana who has been awarded five Individual Artist Grants

Bower's first Grant was for FY2004, and was awarded to assist with printing costs for his first Indiana photography book, Lingering Spirit: Photographs of Indiana's fading, forlorn, and forgotten places.

His second Grant was for FY2006, and was awarded to assist with printing costs for his third Indiana photography book, 2nd Stories: a Hoosier Photographer Explores What’s Upstairs, On Top, and Overhead.

Bower's third Grant was for FY2008, and was used to purchase a state-of-the-art multi-media projector, a carrying case, spare projector bulb, and Apple's Keynote software for use during his PowerPoint presentations.

John's fourth Grant was for FY 2011, and was used to purchase a pre-owned Pentax 67 medium-format film camera and prism finder, along with a 75mm shift lens, a 90-180mm zoom lens, and a 300mm telephoto lens.

John's most recent (fifth) Grant is for FY 2013, and it will be used to pay for materials, promotional postcards, postage, and travel for a solo exhibition and PowerPoint presentation at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City, Indiana.
